More Than A Million For Marriage!

Almost five months ago to the day, I posted about the Human Rights Campaign's Million For Marriage. The goal of this action was to gather one million signatures from Americans who believe that our nation is based on equality for all. And, that equality includes the civil rights of all Americans, specifically the right for homosexual Americans to be married.

Well, just yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign announced that they had gathered more than one million signatures!

To be exact, thus far they have gather 1,006,488!

If you haven't already, please do sign this petition.

And, if you are still undecided about gay marriage, I encourage you all to watch this video and read actual stories from people affected by this form of discrimination.

The United States was founded on the principle that all people were created equal. That means equal treatment for all citizens before the law. It is unconscionable to me that we would so openly discriminate against our own citizens in not allowing them to marry one another. It is an absolute tragedy that other Americans are seeking to inscribe this form of discrimination into our Constitution with an actual amendment to define "marriage."

Perhaps those advocates of a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage could better spend their time in working to strengthen marriage so that the majority of American marriages do not end in divorce. If they believe that marriage is so sacred that it demands the exclusion of homosexuals, wouldn't their time be better spent on getting folks who are currently able to marry to respect the institution a bit more?

I thank everyone out there for signing this petition. And, I also want to thank the Human Rights Campaign for their tireless efforts to bring equality to all Americans.
