Your Signature Does Make A Difference!

We are currently two weeks away from the start of Amnesty International's Global Write-A-Thon. This year, the event will take place from December 7th to 10th. The annual event is scheduled to coincide with International Human Rights Day, which was established in 1950 as a celebration to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Last year, participants from 35 countries wrote over 100,000 letters to political leaders around the world.

Each of these letters made a difference.

It is amazing to think that a simple act such as writing a letter can provide such a great deal of hope for an individual. By signing your name to a letter, you are telling the leader of a nation that you are watching. You are linking yourself to a person being denied their rights. You are saying that you will not allow them to simply disappear.

You become hope.

So, please take a few minutes to register for this year's Write-A-Thon. You may also want to think about forming a group of folks to sponsor a letter writing event in your area. Then, spread the word about the Write-A-Thon through email, blogs, telephone calls, or plain old word-of-mouth.

From December 7th to 10th, write and send as many letters as you possibly can. Amnesty International has identified 15 Write-A-Thon Cases and provides a list of tips for letter writing. For a few minutes of your time and the price of airmail postage, you can become hope for a prisoner of conscience.

Great to hear from you Christine. And, no worries on the reading. If it becomes a chore, then it loses something. But, I hope to see some more posts from you.

I hope you feel better.

Happy Thanksgiving plus three!

What a great cause, Kevin. Amnesty International has been off my radar for a few years now. It's time I got back on the wagon.

Thanks Mad. Same here. I used to really follow Amnesty in high school. I am ashamed that I lost touch with them. But, they are still doing amazing work. And, now, with the internet as a resource, they are having an even greater reach.

Just FYI, their short movies are amazing. I just picked the one, but all of them are excellent. They very poignantly show how important your letters can be.
